No chess player has received the worldwide recognition that Bobby Fischer has. His match for the World Championship with Boris Spassky in 1972 made Fischer a global figure. A former US Olympiad team captain from 1986 to 1996, Donaldson works as the Chess Director of the Mechanics' Institute, home to the oldest continuously operated chess club (founded in 1854) in the United States.
